Happy New Year!

Hopefully 2008 will break my recent trend of good odd numbered years and bad even numbered years...as mentioned in this space at some point in the past (probably an even numbered year)!

Perhaps you should qualify this statement... seeing as our baby was born in an even numbered year!!!

As previously posted here, 2006 did have one big positive (the birth of my first daughter) and some smaller positives (my interest in soccer). So yes, 2006 was not all bad...just mostly bad. Plus don't I recall someone having a rough pregnancy that year...

A great way to make 2008 better for you is to HELP others. You can start by telling me what you know - or just your rating / grade on both Vonage and Tivo.
I think I can save about $50 a month by splitting up my services (from Comcast) and downgrading to basic / signal cable.
So, wanna see if you've heard good things, bad things, beware of things, or we-won't-be-able-to set-anything-up-by-ourself things.
Eagerly awaiting your reply.

And a 2008 cleaning-out-our-cabinet question: Do you want your old NES games? I particularly see some sentimental value in the game IRONSWORD - Wizards & Warriors II, featuring FABIO on the cover.
Your name is on the back with masking tape. Very Bellevue-esque.
Some others: KungFu, RUSH'N ATTACK, 10-Yard Fight, and MEGA MAN III.
TETRIS: "From Russia with Fun!"
Ebay?

I'd be happy to take the NES games off of your hands, for inspection purposes only of course!
As far as Vonage and Tivo go, I think you picked two of the most "under fire" companies of 2007. Vonage was sued by VZW, Sprint and I think AT&Tingular in 2007 (although they may have settled on a couple of those lawsuits). They are laying off about 10% of their employees and have a pretty rancid record for service cancellation (plus, there is no contract, but I hear you pay a fee if you cancel within the first two years).
Tivo is losing ground to homegrown DVR's like Comcast, T-Dub, Cox, etc. In fact, Tivo has already partnered with Comcast in the Northeast in an attempt to reclaim some marketshare.
For purposes of full disclosure: I have never owned, used or worked for either company. Just wanted to drop some fresh, internet knowledge on your pale, white self.

Ironically, early Tivo units apparently had some interoperability issues with Vonage. Circa 2005, Tivo had to use a POTS landline to perform its initial setup. That has since been replaced (on version 7.2 and above) with the ability to activate over ethernet, but still.
Maybe you could find someone in your network that has both and see if they have had any issues.
I know I sound like Negative Nancy, but I'd rather be pessimisstic and save money than optimistic and lose. I'm sure there are many people that use both and have never had a problem.

Well, Nancy, thanks for all that.
So Happy with my Comcast DVR, but it comes only with the expensive digital package. Wanted to downgrade - I don't watch 200+ channels. Well.
I'll leave things as they are; glad I asked.
We'll bring your FABIO game and others when we see you on Birthday Sunday; or maybe drop them off tomorow in exchange for your baby.
