Music from commercials...

I am the biggest sucker for music from commercials. Anytime I see some commercial, even for something I have no interest in, if I like the music, I instantly get hooked. I apparently have this idea that if one song is good (the one they used in the commercial) then the whole album probably sounds like that. Then I go about down..er getting the album and am usually, how to put this nicely, underwhelmed. Not trying to offend anyone, but the latest group to add to this list is Hooverphonic. Now, to be fair, I have only listened to one album (Blue Wonder Power Milk, 1998) and I havent even finished it yet, but so far, its less than impressive. I do have the discography now, so I guess its only fair to check out the rest of their albums, before I put them on the "list." The song "Strange Effect" was used in the latest Motorola SLVR (Cingular) commercial, if you're curious (and that song does rock).
The opposite happens many times as well. A couple of years ago, there was an H2 commercial that was all sorts of weird and in the background, there was this almost techno type song playing. Turns out it was "Vermillion" from the Album Leaf (from the album One Day I'll Be On Time). That whole cd is incredible. Its all instrumental and has a certain electronica vibe to it, but I still listen to it all the time. I'll have to come up with a concrete good vs bad list on here later. Seeing as how today is slower than yesterday (so far), the list may be coming later today.
