900 calorie workout...

aint too shabby. Earlier this year, I referenced a 1000 calorie workout I found. The gist of it was workout at 80% of your target heart rate for 80 minutes. The rationale being that after you burned up all your readily available fuel (ie - sugar and carbs) that your body would begin to burn up stored fat. I (barely) tried this for a week and I couldnt ever get any better than 2x 40 minute workouts per day at about 75% of my target heart rate. I'm sure it was good for me, just kinda painful.

Fast forward to today. I worked the eliptical (sp?) machine at the gym for a solid hour. My pace was high, but not crazy (target heart rate was 154...I probably averaged 161-ish). That hour got me 4.85 miles and 906 calories. It takes a reduction of 3500 calories to burn up one pound of human fat. 906 calories x 5 times a week = 4500~ calories. Should work out to a little over 5 pounds a month. Not great, but not too shabby when you realize that you dont have to alter your food intake at all and, with the extra 1000 calories your burn even if you do increase your intake, it wont make a big difference. Not to mention that whenever I get all workout crazy, I subconciously start eating more of the "good" stuff and less crap which helps on both the weight loss and healthy eating fronts.
