So, apparently, I like country music

Yes, you read that right. I've often found myself identifying with the country and or bluegrass/folk aspects of non-country bands that I was already into, like Widespread Panic and of course the Black Crowes.
After seeing Dwight Yoakam on Conan (or could it have been Carson Daly?) playing a track from his Dwight Sings Buck cd, I checked some of his music out and decided it was a welcome change of pace.
Then the other day, I forgot my lunch and had to go out into the real world for some food. Once I got to my car, I realized I had forgotten my ipod, so it was either no music or radio fare (the Saturn's cd player is on the fritz...possible permanent fritz). I turned on the radio and found it was set to FM100 (shaking fist at Jessica), which for any non-Memphians out there, is one of those cheesy, top 40 stations. I immediately started pressing presets and ended up on Kix 106 (the resident country station) and was not immediately inclined to turn it off. It was some girly singer, who was probably the country equivalent of Hanna Montanna or worse (if that's even possible), but it was actually not that bad. I listened to it on the way to and from my lunch stop (the Loaded Steakhouse burger from Burger King is sooooo good; it'll have to have its own post in a bit). I heard a couple of good songs, and even though I'm certainly not going to go "country-only," I'm ready to inject a little country music into my regularly, anti-country repertoire.
I was also thoroughly surprised to learn that one of the songs I liked the most was called "Don't Think I Don't Think About It," by a familiar rocker named Darius Rucker. Yes, the same Darius Rucker who was the lead singer of Hootie & the Blowfish. He has a full blown country album coming out in September and I think I will be picking it up.
So, to sum up, Matt Babb likes country music, Hootie has a country album coming out and we have apparently entered bizarro world. Have a nice night!

hmmm.... sounds like a case of HATING and DESPISING something and then suddenly having a change of heart.

I can Soooo Help you with your new found interest.
Have you ever heard of Dolly Parton? Well, how about Eddy Arnold?
Clearly, you are getting old, and acquiring some taste.

Not to worry. One full week of Sirius channel 61 entitled 'Prime County' and nowhere to run to except the murky waters of the Gulf, and you'll be begging for FM100.
