#MusicMonday - 3.8.10 - Vampire Weekend

Monday, March 08, 2010

Today, we'll hear from what is slowly becoming my favorite musical act, Vampire Weekend.

Formed in 2006, and obviously in Brooklyn (where else is an indie band going to base themselves?), Vampire Weekend is the best "Upper West Side Soweto" band that I have ever heard. Their wikipedia page describes their genre as indie rock and worldbeat, but I'm not really sure you can pigeonhole them into a genre and yes, I realize how indie that statement makes me.

Their selft titled debut album, released in 2008, produced one of my favorite songs "A-Punk." Early this year, they released "Contra," with my current favorite "Cousins." Continue for both songs in all their youtubed glory.

Cousins from 2010's "Contra"

Cousins was a clever video. Have you checked out the video to OK GO's "This Too Shall Pass"? There are 2 versions available on the internet. One is with a marching band and the other is just the band in a warehouse. They are clever as well.
