My new Heisman theory for 2007...
Monday, December 10, 2007
New buddy Memphis got me thinking about the Heisman again. First, let me say that maybe I was a little harsh on Tebow. I don't know the guy from Adam, and couldn't say a thing pro or con about him personally. Second, as Memphis reminded me, Tebow is supposedly a Christian (I only say supposedly because my "online Bible" makes no mention of it (although it does state that his parents were/are Christian missionaries and that he went to a Christian high school). I also understand that it is not nice to call the school gay...I don't know if they are all gay or not...I just know that I can't stop saying/typing GAYtors since I thought it up a couple of years back!
Anywho, on to the theory. It goes like this: say what you will about Tebow, he can seemingly play the game of football very well. Has the ability to scramble (and not just in a "run for your life" way...he can take some hits). He also has the ability to pass, as judged from his 29 TD passes this season at UF. But I think some of that may be due to his supporting cast. Florida obviously has a large recuriting budget and is a "cool" place to play at the moment (2x defending b-ball champs and defending football champs). But, another good player with a lot of gaudy stats is one Colt Brennan from the University of Hawaii (2007 - 4174 yards, 166.3 qb rating, 71.4 completion percentage, 379.5 passing yards per game, 38 td passes) was drawing some comparisons in my mind when it hit me: if Brennan played at UF and Tebow at UH, Brennan would've been holding the Heisman on Saturday night and Tebow would've been watching from 3rd place. Think about it, even though Hawaii is undefeated, they did have one of the worst (if not the worst) strength of schedules in FBS (a big strike), they don't play in a BCS conference (strike 2) and if Brennan had use of Tebow's o-line, running game and receiver corps (strike 3 and you're out)...I think he would defintely have taken home the Heisman.

I agree, the Heisman went to the school and not the player.
Anyways, any thought on the new Razorback Football coach? Blanks labeled him a quitter last night in a news conference. I myself am excited since I am a lifelong God blessed Razorback fan! (that sounded like a good thing when I said it in my head, not sure if it comes out that way in written form!)

Tebow actually didn't go to a Christian high school. He was homeschooled and was eligible to play for Nease High School his sophomore through senior seasons in Florida because under the Craig Dickinson Act a homeschooled student can play for a high school team if he lives in that district. He only played for Trinity Christian his freshman year, and he played linebacker and tight end. Just thought I'd drop some knowledge on you!

As a wikipedia-nazi, that comment reeks of "i just looked this up." I mean come on, you'd have to be Craig Dickinson (or TT himself) to know about the "Craig Dickinson Act," of Florida...
As always, all comments are appreciated.
