#MusicMonday - 4.20.10 - Dwight Yoakam

Tuesday, April 20, 2010

Is the whole "MusicMonday,er #MusicTuesday," gimmick still cool, or is it just plain annoying by now? Should I just rename the thing to MusicTuesday and get it over with?

Not sure how to explain my absence for the last two weeks. I've certainly gone MIA for longer periods before, but this time, I never even really thought about posting. The stress of the buildup to April 15 and a brief decompression afterwards finds us here, ready for some more music.

Dwight Yoakam is by no means new to the scene. In fact, seems like even I would've posted about him before now, but I checked my records thoroughly and did not see his name come up. I could expound on the whole Bakersfield sound and how there are circles where Bakersfield, CA and Nashville, TN are brought up and compared to each other as equals, when it comes to country music hotbeds. I won't get into all that here (since I'm so lazy), but I will leave you with an early gem from Dwight, before he was a country music icon, director and movie star.
