#MusicMonday - 4.5.10 - Lay Low

Monday, April 05, 2010

After a brief sabbatical, D > D is back with a vengeance. Well, back at least.

I guess I could go with my recent hiatus as an April fool's joke, but I missed the date a little huh? I could hold off a little longer, since my last post was March 22nd, and say I was going for my usual monthly post, but I'm guessing someone out of my massive readership (you know, my mom, who reads out of a sense of duty - Hi Mom! - or one of those people I pay to read) would eventually notice that the original promise was a much more frequent scale of one-per-month. I'd still honor the original 150% money back guarantee, but I'm guessing there is no one around from way back then to remember. Wow, am I still rambling and not delivering any goods? Sorry...

While she was born in jolly old England, Lovísa Elísabet Sigrúnardóttir (better known by her stage name Lay Low) moved to the frigid, barren wasteland of Iceland when she was young, which...what's that? Not frigid or barren eh? Greenland you say? Right right, anywho, my serious lack of geography notwithstanding, Lay Low began producing solo work when one of her tracks was "discovered" on her MySpace page, which is an altogether disturbing trend, but let's face it, it could be worse (looking in your direction, reality tv).

Here is "By and By," live, from her album "Farewell Good Night's Sleep."

Compared to the album version.

"Little by Little," from the Flatey DVD, filmed on location on the remote, Icelandic island of the same name. (The track is also available on "Farewell Good Night's Sleep," but I think we're avoiding the obvious question here, does the "audience" know that they are in a music video? Have they ever seen cameras? Were there guns just out of the frame that we didn't know about?!? I honestly can't answer any of those questions...let's just watch)

And, the track that started it all for me "I Forget It's There," (not the official video), also on FGNS.

Loving the music. Reminds me of my freshman year at Georgia Southern University. Keep on enlightening me with your music finds. And yes - still waiting for mixed tape using 2010 technology.
